I know what it feels like to feel shy, scared, and even frustrated that you cannot speak a second language fluently, having gone through the learning process myself moving from Australia to Croatian and learning Croatian as a second language. You don’t have to feel like that, there is an easy way to drastically improve your confidence speaking English and I want to show you how.

Cara Leopold

Hi there, I’m Cara and I help intrepid travellers and adventurous expats improve their English listening skills so they can better understand and better connect with fast-talking native speakers through their love of films.

Because nobody deserves to only be able to work in English. Because you deserve to have a life, with friends and evenings out with colleagues. Have deep conversations over stuff you really care about…like movies. And you deserve to feel like part of a community.

I show you how to use subtitles with my own proven and unique method that lets you really improve your English listening skills. But also keeps you motivated, because you’re doing what you love. That way, you can better connect with English-speaking locals in conversation and fit in better when living abroad or on your travels.

Ciao, I’m Elfin

and I’m here to help you, passionate Italophile,  transform your Italian into an enjoyable break to take in and enjoy in tiny, tasty sips.

Like a very good cup of coffee. Something that you can fit into the busiest of days.

Learning won’t remind you of school but of ducking into a café for a quick drink. A moment of intense satisfaction that will recharge your batteries and allow you to jump back in your day, refreshed and purposeful. Learning Italian has never been this dolce.

When I first visited Japan in 2007, I was captivated by this fascinating country - its culture, people and most of all its language. There was one problem. I didn't speak Japanese!

I spent the following decade learning this beautiful language. I worked hard to achieve fluency, and in 2013 I passed N1, the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

I started teaching Japanese lessons to groups in my central Brighton classroom in 2015. All classes are now online. So, wherever you are in the world, you can join us at Step Up Japanese.

Kerstin Cable

Kerstin, that's me. 👋 I founded Fluent Language in 2012.

I am a native German speaker and come from the beautiful Moselle valley. These days, one of the things about me that seems to surprise people is that my English is almost native-like and yet I never studied a language before the age of 10. It's possible. You're not too old, ever.

I am ambivalent about the Oxford comma but tend to end up using it.

My presentation at the Polyglot Conference 2018

I've had a passion for languages since we danced to odd Hebrew songs in Kindergarten, and have studied English, French, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish, and Welsh. I'm currently trying my hand at Mandarin Chinese. My native dialect is Moselfränkisch, and so I also understand most of Luxembourgish.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 I was born and raised in West Yorkshire near to Leeds, England

🇬🇧🇪🇸🇫🇷🇮🇹🇧🇷 I speak 5 languages, but to very different levels

👨🏻‍🏫 I have over 10 years experience teaching English around the world

⚽️ I’m really into my fitness, I love working out, doing marathons and in general, I’m a big sports fan, especially football and I support LUFC

✈️ Travelling is a passion of mine, but I actually hate the action of travelling itself, queueing up, delayed flights, it’s a nightmare

📽 Outside of teaching I consider myself an introvert, there’s nothing I like more than chilling out on my sofa, eating and watching series

🎧 As a language learner myself, I listen to podcasts in different languages on a daily basis but it’s hard to motivate myself to write or speak in those languages, I know, I’m a bit of a hypocrite 😅

I've been learning languages in all sorts of ways since I was 8 years old.

That’s over 2 decades! It started with French in primary school because we got croissants at the end of term, which was reason enough for me to keep going. That's what they mean when they says children learn languages easily...

I've self-studied over 15 languages to conversational & beyond.
The full list (because I know you’re curious) is French, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Esperanto, Indonesian, Guarani, Korean, Bulgarian, Russian, Turkish.

I studied my BA in Modern Languages with a French & Spanish focus.
I did this via part time distance learning with The Open University. That means I got to work, travel, learn, and live all at the same time. The stinky uni dorms and student debt put me off a brick university.

Lisa (Your English Self)

Hi, I’m Lisa, an English teacher and Neurolanguage CoachⓇ

I help busy people find time for English so they can get unstuck and learn to express themselves confidently and fluently.

I’m also a language learner so I know that it’s not always easy!

Over the years I’ve studied a few languages, but here’s the thing…

Although I was a really good student and studied all the vocabulary and grammar rules, I didn’t have the confidence to speak.

I’m now learning Swedish (for no reason other than it makes me happy)

Martin Johnston

Hi! I’m Martin!

I am an English Teacher that hates text books and normal learning methods.

Normal is boring.  I can help you maintain and improve your English by telling you that I am scared of dogs and that I don’t know how many kisses to give people when I say hello.
I can help you learn English via real life embarrassing stories and not through scripted audio texts spoken by actors.

I think you are very similar to me. I believe the only thing that is different is that you have a different story to me.

I have connected with thousands of students with my stories.

I can also help you connect with people in English by sharing your stories.

Our aim is to make English accessible to all.

I taught in Vietnam, volunteering in pre-schools (Kindergartens) and I felt compelled to do more, just next door in Cambodia there was even more poverty and a desperate need for English teachers.

I got on a bus and went across the border.

I was surprised just how many people believed learning English would lift them from poverty. (There is a large element of truth to this).
